Mike's Life Was Changed by the Power of the Holy Spirit

I was brought up in the Greek Orthodox religion. When I reached my teenage years I hated religion and lost all desire for God. I soon learned to drink and smoke, became very worldly, and got more involved with friends and their activities.

In 1983 someone put a leaflet in our letterbox - an invitation to an outreach presentation about the last days and nuclear war. The presentation was more like a documentary; it highlighted how devastating those weapons really are. The Pastor read some Bible scriptures relating to what would happen in the future and he also told us of the way out and what we must do to be saved. He quoted Mark 16, John 3, Acts 2 and many more scriptures. He told us that Jesus said we had to be baptised and receive the Holy Spirit and for the first time in my life I liked what I was hearing. I felt convicted and wanted to hear more. I had prayer to receive the Holy Spirit. My tongue began to change and I could not say the word Hallelujah correctly so I stopped praying. However, that same night I lost all desire to drink alcohol and have not touched any since. I also found it difficult to swear any more yet 24 hours before, I was swearing as bad as any worldly person.

A man and his wife from the Revival Fellowship visited me and showed me many scriptures. They pointed out that a person being baptised must be an age when he or she understands what they are doing. I was pleased that it proved baptising babies in the Greek Church was unscriptural, also that the icons in the church were graven images and the same as idol worship. I attended another meeting and I decided to get baptised. The next day I received the Holy Spirit and spoke in tongues. That was when I knew that Jesus was real. He had come into my life. I did not need anyone to tell me. The Lord had proven himself to me in His miraculous way. From that day on my life completely changed. I understood what I was reading in the scriptures. Any questions that I had were answered either during the talks or in the Spiritual Gifts, which was amazing. I am looking forward to the day that the Lord returns. I pray that I will be counted worthy to be called part of the Lord’s elect along with all of my brethren. Praise the Lord.
