Ward Had All His Questions to Life Answered

One day as I was looking out over Lake Ontario, Canada while walking our dog I cried out, “there must be a sign!” I was 19 at the time and I was wondering what life was all about and if there was a God. The party scene was getting old. “Receive the Holy Ghost” the bishop said as he laid his hands on my shoulder. This was at my school church in Canada. After this confirmation service my life did not change. I used to tell my friends at parties if Jesus would show me that He was alive I would follow him.

Later on, I was hitch hiking in Townsville, Australia and a man picked me up and told me Jesus lives and He is returning to this earth. I was stunned because this was new for me. I attended church every day before school and never heard of the Lord’s return. I was told miracles were not for today but this man was speaking of the miraculous infilling of God’s Holy Spirit. I was baptized by full immersion and received God’s Spirit two days later with the miraculous sign of speaking in tongues in 1983.

A peace and joy from the Lord, which I had never known, flooded into my life. Swearing, drinking, and desiring immoral ways left my life. Hard questions which teens face about life, death, sex, friendships and life goals were all answered by the clear direction of God’s word. After receiving God’s Spirit I cut my trip to Australia short because Jesus was returning! I rushed home to Canada and Bermuda to tell family and friends that Jesus lives. None of them wanted to follow the word of God. My concerned parents took me to counsellors and psychologists who tried to tell me that there were many ways to come to God. When I would tell others the truth of the gospel my heart would be lifted up with joy from the Lord.

I moved to California to learn about our amazing Savior that had given me the gift of life. Through marriage and having two children who are now in their early 20s I see the power of the Lord is always with me. The peace of God has never left me. I have stuttered all my life and since being filled with the Spirit it has vastly improved. I am in Fresno, California, now and have been fellowshipping here since 1988. Watching this fellowship grow has been exciting. Outreaches and walking in the neighborhood to share the gospel is a blessing. Praying for people to experience God’s salvation is pure joy. I thank the Lord that we have the answer in Jesus.
