Evelyn Survived Necrotising Fasciitis When Given Less Than 1% Chance of Living
On April 28th 2007 I had stayed up praying for God to take away the severe pain in my right leg, so that I could sleep. At 4:30 a.m. I suddenly called Bill and said that we must immediately go to the hospital; and we were there in a few minutes.
By that time a brown spot had started to appear on my leg. The pain was so severe that they had to give me 3 shots of morphine, but that did not alleviate the pain. The timing of the Lord was perfect. When I arrived, a doctor passing by made an assessment that I had Necrotizing Fasciitis, a flesh-eating bacteria. I was in surgery within 2 hours. Had he not sent me at that time, bypassing the usual testing, I most certainly would have died. A brother from England had an article about a well-known person from his country that contracted Necrotizing Fasciitis...and that man was dead within 24 hours.
Prayer went out for me around the world. I was so sick that I was kept sedated for the next 10 or so days. Bill had to sign papers saying that they could amputate my leg if they were unable to get the infection cut out. My kidneys started failing and I contracted a secondary infection. I was given less than a one percent chance to live; they were virtually waiting for me to die. Praise the Lord: we serve a God with healing power.
Many things happened during my 52 days in the hospital. I had a 10 X 12-inch graft of skin taken from my left leg to cover the wound on the right leg. I was put to sleep 3 times a week to change the dressings on my leg. The doctors were amazed at the speed in which I healed.
They wanted to label me as a wonderful patient, being so brave, etc., but every time I was able to praise God and tell them of His power in my life. I praise the Lord that He allowed me to go through this trial. It is very humbling to be so totally dependent on the Lord. I thought that I would not be able to return to my old life of work and serving His people. But God has been gracious to me. I am well on my way to a full recovery.
