Raelene Received Comfort From the Holy Spirit When Her Husband Died

In 1958 I went to Ceduna to have a Christmas holiday. My girlfriend’s cousin came over from Victoria to tell all her relatives of her experience of receiving the Holy Spirit and being baptized as it says in the Bible. I thought, “Wow, that’s so good, I want to be right with God”. So I had some prayer this particular night with everybody and I burst forth in this new language I had never learnt and spoke out in tongues. It was such a wonderful and strong infilling. I got baptised in the sea shortly after.

I went home and I couldn’t wait to tell everybody what they must do to be right with God. I got the biggest shock of my life because nobody wanted to hear about it. I had no fellowship all that time except encouraging letters from Ceduna. But all of a sudden we started to have meetings and five people were baptized including my mother and sister. I knew what I had was true. No-one could take it away from me. My husband didn’t seem to mind but he didn’t want to be a part of it, but his family were very anti–Holy Spirit. I had three children that never knew what had happened to me, and I used to just pray to the Lord, “Lord, I know what I’ve got is true and wonderful and I just want my family to have it as well”.

When they were older, my daughter, and later my youngest son, went to Adelaide for apprenticeships and were told about the experience of receiving the Holy Spirit just as I was. They got baptized and spirit filled. When I visited I found a magazine with familiar names in it. It was just of the Lord, how He bought it all in without me doing anything except praying. Our daughter came home and we started having meetings in our town. Not long afterwards, my husband was mending a tyre on the semi, & it exploded and killed him. That was pretty horrific of course but the Lord just gave me an incredible peace. We needed to sell and move to Adelaide, so we put it to the Lord because it’s very difficult in a little country town to sell anything. The Lord just moved upon everything & made it possible. Then we got involved totally with the fellowship. I’d never want to be anywhere else.
