Nancy was Protected From a Motorcycle Collision

On the road from Kangarilla, South Australia, to Clarendon you go across an historic two lane narrow “Clarendon Bridge” built in the 1860’s over the Onkaparinga River. When busses and supermarket size trucks use this bridge today they cannot go across until both the lanes are clear. At the far end of the bridge the road makes a sharp blind turn to the left to continue along the river bank and up the hill to the Clarendon Township. In 1978 I was driving our small family car across this bridge when suddenly a motorbike came speeding around that sharp blind corner onto the bridge in my lane. I instantly realized I couldn’t go any further to the left in my lane as I would crash into the concrete bridge columns and parapets and injure or kill our two little boys. Alternatively. if I swerved right into the motorcyclist’s correct lane and he swerved back onto his correct side of the road, I would be in the wrong lane and I would cause him and us to have a head- on accident. These thoughts were absolutely instantaneous. I had no answers at all but I knew God was my only hope so I said “praise the Lord!” and I ducked my head down as the motorbike was speeding right up ‘into my face’ about to hit my car.

Unexpectedly, there was no change in the sound of my car’s engine or the motorbike’s roar, my car was still just driving along... I immediately looked up again and there in my rear vision mirror above my head I could see the motorbike and its pillion passenger still in my lane and still speeding along as fast as before... It had all happened so fast that my body didn’t have time to move in response to what was about to happen, so I was still physically driving along doing what I had been doing an instant before! Because it all happened so fast with no sudden movements of my car driving along I had to explain to our little boys in the back seat just what an amazing miracle had occurred and we really praised and thanked the Lord. My heart was still pounding almost an hour later! Writing this account 38 years later still stirs up my heart rate, and my deepest appreciation for God’s powerful divine protection. I know what happened. There is no natural explanation for God’s wonderful miracle He performed for us that day - but I often wonder what that motorcyclist thought!
