Isaac Was Healed of Central Sleep Apnoea
When Isaac was 7 weeks old, his dad was watching him sleep in the pram and noticed that he wasn’t breathing very well, he was taking approximately 10-15 breaths per minute. Being a nurse I quickly gave him a rub to wake him up and he woke up crying and appeared to breathe normally again. We were concerned by this episode and took Isaac to the hospital.
To cut a very long story short, Isaac was admitted to hospital and had various tests. One of these included a ’sleep test’ where Isaac’s oxygen and respiratory rate was monitored. This showed that Isaac stopped breathing up to 200 times in the night with his blood oxygen levels dropping significantly. As a result, Isaac was diagnosed with Central Sleep Apnoea and was placed on oxygen. With central sleep apnoea in children, the respiratory centre in the brain responsible for breathing fails to prompt the body to breathe when sleeping. In addition to this, Isaac also had various other tests which showed enlarged ventricles in his brain and increased lactates in his blood. Isaac also had to have an EEG to rule out brain damage which may have been caused by a significant lack of oxygen to his brain for the first 7 weeks of his life. Pete and I left the hospital and went to a park to have some prayer when we were awaiting the results of the EEG; we prayed for Isaac’s brain to be completely normal and praise the Lord, his brain activity was fine.
The increased markers from some of the tests prompted some concern as they could be signs of Leigh’s disease, a neurological disease that can lead to death in children. As a result Isaac’s levels were monitored every 3 months to keep a track of them. Every 3 months Isaac’s levels remained largely the same. During this time he remained on oxygen and continued to grow and thrive. At approximately 18 months of age, Pete and I had a prayer and fast for Isaac. We had prayer for a complete healing. When we went for Isaac’s tests it was confirmed that he had a complete healing from his Central Sleep Apnoea. His respiratory Consultant stated that it was nothing short of a miracle. In addition to this, his other markers were also all completely within normal limits.
Isaac is now a smart and confident young man. We praise the Lord that he remained within us during a time of great tribulation. The peace and comfort that we felt during that time was something that can’t be described. We had hope when from a natural point of view all hope seemed lost. It is something that I’m truly thankful to the Lord for.
